SCILEX exists to make one question answerable in public: can this journal be trusted? We record indexing status, assessment history, and integrity signals openly, so authors, readers, and institutions can decide for themselves.
Indexing has become crowded with directories that count journals rather than vet them. SCILEX takes the opposite stance. Every listing passes a tiered process, including eligibility, quality scoring, and an integrity check against open data, before it earns a place. The integrity layer is the point: no history of mass retractions, no removal from Scopus, DOAJ, or WoS for misconduct, and no signs of paper mills, citation cartels, or tortured phrases.
The result is a smaller directory that means more. A SCILEX record is a claim we are willing to stand behind and archive permanently, decision and rationale included.
Open-source data is indicative and cross-checked, but never the sole basis for a committee ruling.
Decisions are made by a committee, not a single administrator. Each submission is scored independently by three reviewers who do not see one another's sheets. Any member with a conflict of interest is automatically recused from the journal in question, and that recusal is recorded. Applicants who are rejected may appeal once within 30 days, as outlined in the Appeal Policy.
